Last week I mentioned CHRIS REA's "Texas"...which inspires me to
mention and watch again maybe one of the best & FUNNIEST
movies ever made -- HAPPY, TEXAS -- perfect for a day that used to
be a religious event for a world that's now mostly without any gods other
than money and egos. I'll be watching it today along with
Suddenly It's Spring eating some new MARCH apropos LUCKY
CHARMS with HONEY Clovers from my Tony The Tiger bowl, wearing
my bunny slippers from REAL GENIUS, and three of us are gunna work
a bit on this RUBIK's cube (which I'm committed to figure out without
cheats). Gunna laugh my ass off...especially at Illeana D.'s "ho...ho...
homo........homosexual..." OMG how far we've cum (except maybe
in Texas which still stands as a republic of retro-world ideas on
everything). If religion (esp Xianity) offers any tangible wisdom
it might be that ANY MOMENT could be your LAST SUPPER...so feast

Now that we're out of the

EVERYBODY DANCE NOW!
I have no clue how many
times I've now said this but
prepare yourself for me
saying it again...THE EN-
TIRE WORLD WOULD BE
MUCH HAPPIER & kind-
er if EVERYONE just spon-
taneously broke out into
SONG/DANCE! It was
disturbing to watch do-
zens of people wince,
mock, and 'omg what a
loser' this sophisticated
number in the flick "Bad
Trip" that just premiered
on NETFLIX. The whole
prep and post is pre-
cious and I laughed
and cheered and if I'd
been there I would have
been delighted to join
in or at least APPLAUD.
Like I said...I don't like
Americans and this was
a ratification of my many
reasons. Canadians...we
would think it was hilar-
ious! Or at least I hope
so! Any good vacation
anywhere requires some
great music and at least
dancing in your carseat.
But much of the charm
of dancing has been lost
with the loss of all forms
of dance that aren't
hotsteppin'. No one
waltzes, cha'chas or just
ballroom dances any
more. Apparently prior
to 1965, kids took dance
as a simple part of their
childhood. Gussied up,
they cotillion'd? By the
80s, dancing consisted
of rocking back-n-forth
in place. WOW! That
really sucks. As soon as
this Covid craziness is
over I'm taking some
dance classes. I'm damn
well gunna learn how to
REALLY DANCE! There's
my promise to myself!
For now...Gene Kelly &
Astaire will have to do.
Don't panic...I'm still
gunna post my silly bad
dancing! It's fun! Mean-

I completely missed the sweeeeeeet and charming CAPTAIN KANGAROO
Even though -- as most now know -- I'm called ROUX (pronounced ROO)
by everyone who knows me (a nick I picked up over the years first by D.
then by friends/lovers/spouses) related to KANGA/ROO from WINNIE
THE POOH fame (a bio story elsewhere on this blog). OMG! Captain
Kangaroo was adorable! Lots of reading! Love that! Now that I'm the
skipper/captain of my boat...maybe I'll start my own CAPTAIN ROUX
story-reading series! Meanwhile...if you didn't notice the ZOO DISCO on the clip from TGIF (movie) then it
won't seem nearly as coincidental with all this talk of the nature preserves and woods I frequent
feeding deer etc that it's all an elaborate conspiracy to get you to watch SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK's
"FOUR LEGGED ZOO" ...the next in our Saturday Morning Funhouse look into all the magic I missed
being a millennial. Kangaroos aren't 4-legged and Cptn. KR wasn't a Saturday event or toon but it IS
interesting to note that not many BROWN cartoon characters existed (especially in the fore)
prior to 1990 when efforts were being made to radically alter that!
I'm pretty mortified that FAT ALBERT & THE GANG
were portrayed as obese, stupid, uneducated
losers hanging around a junkyard and surviving...
GOD-KNOWS-HOW! But it at least started
inroads to white kids watching black kids and
laughing like they laughed at all the pervasively-
white cartoon characters of the time. Of course
2 black women did the singing/talking voice for
Valerie Brown (Pussycats) so...whew! And damn
if she wasn't HAF even for a toon! But it's a wee bit
disturbing a very very very very white guy did
the (poorly done) voice for possibly the only INDIAN toon
HADJI in JOHNNY QUEST. I don't see the appeal
of JOHNNY QUEST at all! Is it a guy thing? I'd think
guys woulda purrrfuuuurred VALERIE's hot brown
body shakin' her ass on PUSSYcats! Or are boys
oblivious until they get their first wet-dream?
But let's face it...maybe the hottest TOON ever
-- not just for looks/body but also personality and
sexuality -- is FOXY BROWN from Drawn Together
(my fav toon of all time second only to FINAL SPACE
which also has a hot brown-HUED slutty protagonist).
FOXY is....oh god...I wanna do her so bad I'm rubbing my-
self everytime I watch it...especially with her and CLARA
going at it. F*CK YES!! Now...if that had existed when I
was a kid...DDDAAMMMNNN I'd be an even bigger nympho
than I already am...if that's possible! But if it is, she'd do it for
me. Hell yes! I hate that I missed so much sweetness and
kindness flourishing in these older toons. Today's toons
are just...well...adult. They're really not reinforcing any of the
warm, kind, gentle, innocent traits of being a kid. They're
working damn hard at destroying the child to create another
hard, cold, crass, rude, aggressive, vicious, apathetic adult.
That brings us ZOO-WISE to H.R. PUFFNSTUFF and THE NEW ZOO REVIEW
which mostly relied on animals/creatures 4-legged or otherwise to
dazzle, dance, sing and help bolster in kids everything from good manners
to thoughtfulnes, forgiveness, kindness, charity and...just plain HAVING FUN!
I don't think there's anything like it or has been anything like it in a long time.
It's just not....................cool enough. 'Cool' being defined now by CRUELTY,
CUNNING and indifference. ('Cool' originally meaning not quite COLD but
'aloof' or 'whatever' attitude in the 50s). Our current 'COOL' was MONSTROUS

DANCE to these shows forever! They are PRECIOUS AND ADORABLE!!
DRAWN TOGETHER was never intended for kids but todays toons don't seem
all that much better. Gimme a good sweet book like PING, a song about
FRIENDSHIP, a dance about KINDNESS and a few silly people to enjoy it
with and you can lock me in a cage for people to ogle. It might not seem
like freedom but baby............it would be an awfully liberating PRISON!

Everyone has a secret garden
but I wonder if anyone any-
more has a SACRED GARDEN
Mine is the sea...and sailing.
I don't share much about it
openly not because it is
secret but because it is
sacred. Winter doesn't keep
me from the beach. I bring
some hot chocolate or tea
and a good blanket and I
wrap up, sit in the cold sand
and watch the water. In the
cold...I am alone. Not even
dog-walkers dare disturb
the spell. There is a magic
there, night and day.
Anchored a mile or more
offshore, the 30 foot cabin
Aloha (new) I rig and tack
gets a steady keel most
nights and no baby ever
slept better! The sea -- salt
or freshwater -- brings me
a dream. It is always a magic
dream. If you haven't had this
mystical experience, waking
with the water, birds circling,
eggs and bacon, eating on
deck with the sun or storm,
you've really missed out on
what can only be described
as, well...sacred. Even when
I'm not sailing, my body is
beckoning to be. It's im-
possible to stand or sit
anywhere near any shore
and not feel forever
hailing...bidding...enticing.
What's your sacred garden?
Whatever it is...let's hope
you have someone to share
it with. I'm not sure what's
more critical -- the garden
or the circle of someones

ONE WISH BEFORE WE DIE
Being brown means that
every minute I spend in the
sun I'm getting even
brownererer! Coco Chanel
made tanning chic and since
then white people have
spent DAYS in the sun try-
ing to become the color
of people they once en-
slaved. If that isn't the very
definition of irony and pro-
gress I don't know what
is. As I've mentioned be-
fore, I realize most men
have an Aryan concept of
beauty even if they don't
admit it to even them-
selves. But being Tea-
Colored is neither good
nor bad. Brit and I are
both tea junkies and I've
got some pretty fancy-
shwantzy TEA boxes with
some pretty exotic teas
from all over the world --
maybe as many as 50+.
Unlike coffee, tea has a
number of remedial --
even medicinal advanta-
ges and may just be the
best thing mother-nature
ever gave us. Maybe
there's something to that
-- maybe brown girls are
good medicine and a
warming comfort in a
cold world. I've got a Tea-
Station in the bedroom
with everything you can
imagine related to tea to
make it 24/7. I say skip the
coffee and cancer & get
sunny and warm with me.
I have beach music/video
playing on my 200-inch
screen 24/7. Even when
I'm not at/on the beach
or out on the water...it's
playing while I sleep.

It's another FRIDAY NIGHT DISCO/70S dance with my

HAPPINESS is the only wise or
clever thing there is. Sacred texts
blather on and on about how
wisdom and knowledge are
the beginning of misery.
I don't think IGNORANCE is
BLISS. Guernica had no idea
what was coming: I don't think
they were or are in BLISS.
But if there's a path to true
WISDOM...it's this -- the universe is chaos and entropy: we're all
being shaken like rag-dolls by Godzilla & devoured by sub-atomic matter
of existence itself -- It's just not as SPAZ-obvious as my dancing. The best
defence is DANCING TIL THE WORLD ENDS & flipping the bird to every-
thing that challenges your ZEN and your HAPPY. Sex might be the only
true HAPPY there is beyond dancing and a fantastic chocolate cake or
perfectly-buttered-BBBQ'd steak! So a WISE and CLEVER soul fires up the
the BARBIE and GRABS the entire CAKE and heads to the beach for some
steak and cake by the ocean and then gets all sweaty with their Freddy
or their Betty (and maybe more than one or 2 or 3) and tells whatever
design may be at work, "NICE TRY...BUT I'M BEING HAPPY!"

since the day it came out on
dvd, saw it at the theaters 3
times and have seen it 50+
times since then. I'm a big
fan of the ridiculous -- doing
it and laughing at it.
